Science-to-Action Tools and Publications
The Marine Management Area Science Program puts science into action to benefit people and nature. We partner with policy makers, resource managers, and other decision-makers at local to global levels to facilitate successful, science-based conservation.

In all activities, we use a Science-to-Action (S2A) approach. Locally and globally, we work with managers, policy decision makers, and other stakeholders to identify the most critical information to improve management and the best ways to provide the information for maximum impact. We assemble teams of scientists to generate the needed information, and the scientists work in close partnership with stakeholders, often including stakeholders in the research team.

The scientific findings are shared informally through continuing communication, as well as through one-on-one discussions with key decision makers; meetings of stakeholders such as fishermen’s cooperatives and community workshops; and more public forums such as radio broadcasts and television programs. To facilitate these discussions, we produce S2A materials such as white papers, synthesis booklets, interactive tools, posters, policy briefs, videos, and guidebooks.

Peer-Reviewed Articles
Peer-reviewed articles ensure that our research findings are validated and accessible to the global scientific community. The articles are written at the completion of research. Each peer-reviewed articles presents findings from

  1. a single study on a specific topic,
  2. an integrated analysis of multiple related studies conducted in one of our four Focus Areas, or
  3. a global integration of research conducted at the Focus Areas and other sites around the world.
